In a recent interview Animal director Reddy Vanga spoke about Bobby Deol’s Animal character. He also explained the reason for choosing Bobby’s character as Muslim. In Ranbir Kapoor’s latest blockbuster, Bobby Deol is portrayed as Muslim though being related to the same Sikh family as Ranbir Kapoor. This not only brings a twist in the plot but also increases fans’ curiosity to know the reason. According to Sandeep Vanga Abrar’s character depicts the setbacks he faced during his early life.
While speaking about Bobby Deol’s Animal character, he added, “We see a lot of people converting to Islam and Christianity; we never see anybody converting to Hinduism. So, I thought I’ll use this, because you can get multiple wives in Islam. I can have multiple cousins with different faces; the drama will be bigger. That’s the only reason. There was no intention to show a Muslim in a bad light.”
Bobby Deol’s Animal character has put the internet on fire
Sandeep Reddy Vanga, in an interview with Galatta Plus, said he has observed that often people with low self-confidence or in difficult situations are advised to take help from church or spiritual leaders. This does not allow the person to look into himself and accept the difficult situations but to convert to different religion. Sometimes people are also asked to change their names in the conversion process. He said he has witnessed that instances like this with various people where conversion into different religion provides a new start to people and Bobby Deol’s Animal character as Muslim also portrays a similar notion.
Sandeep further said that, based on his observations from actual life, highly vulnerable people often turn to superstition and religion for comfort. In the film, Abrar’s grief over his grandfather’s passing causes him to go mute. Later, after his brother is killed, he sets out to get revenge on Ranvijay, only to find out later that they are related by blood.
